When we are young,
we often feel compelled
to become someone who is chosen.

To be recognized.
To be needed.
To meet the expectations of others.

We come to believe
that this is our worth.

 

But at a certain age,
a quiet realization arrives.

 

That our own choices
are what truly matter.

 

Not because we stop trying.
Not because we give up.

 

But because we want to live
with sincerity toward
what is truly important.

 

Who am I, really?

This question begins to rise,
softly,
as we enter a new stage of life.

Child-rearing.
Caregiving.

 

The changes in a woman’s life
can be overwhelming.

Sometimes,
the person you were yesterday
and the person you are today
feel as if they belong
to completely different lives.

Time, strength, inner space—
they slowly wear away.

 

And still,
we keep moving forward,
telling ourselves
to “do the right thing.”

 

That is why
living in the present moment
becomes so important.

 

Regrets about the past,
fears about the future
may drift through our minds—

 

yet in this moment,
nothing is truly happening.

 

You are breathing.
Your body is here.
This day
has not broken.

 

The story of Ōigimi
from The Tale of Genji
seems to whisper this truth to me.

 

Not as a woman who was not chosen,
but as a woman who chose not to be.

 

Not a life entrusted to others,
but a path quietly chosen—
one that does not require
self-sacrifice.

 

It is okay to pause.
It is okay not to be chosen.
You do not have to step away
from the present moment.

 

At times like this,
I like to offer myself
a favorite hydrosol—gently.

 

Not for someone else.
Not for the version of me
who must keep going.

 

But for the part of me
that feels close to breaking.

 

For me,
it is laurel.

 

A scent that restores
a quiet inner core.

 

Not pushing me forward,
but reminding me
that it is enough
